Ronald Edward Watowa, age 65, of Conway, South Carolin, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer on March 10, 2025, Born on June 1959, in Atchison, Kansas, he was a son of the late James “Jim” and Rita Peak Watowa.
Survivors include his wife of almost 33 years, JeanetteWatowa; children of Valerie Schlereth Watowa, Daryl Watowa(April) of Kansas, Karen Stevenson (Joshua) of SouthCarolina, Greg Watowa (Erin) of South Carolina; stepchildren, Jennifer Kopp of Kansas, Kristen Narron (Jeff) of Kansas; one brother; three sisters; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his stepmother, Donna Watowa, and his granddaughter, Logan Watowa.
A graduate of Atchison High School class of 1978, Ron grew up and spent most of his life in Kansas. He gave back to his community in Atchison County by working so many different roles including the sheriff’s deputy reserves, and Walnut & Shannon Township volunteer fire departments. Ron also worked with the rescue squad for 25 plus years and maintained the roads for Mt. Pleasant township for 10 plus years, He was a long-time equipment operator and owner-operator truck driver. Ron loved the outdoors and had a passion for fishing and guns. He was also known for being quite a talented cook.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Lee Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM – 1:45 PM. Interment will immediately follow the service at Hickman Cemetery in Calabash, North Carolina
