Benedictine College holds Disaster Simulation

More than 70 Benedictine College nursing students participated in a day-long disaster simulation training program Wednesday afternoon with the City of Atchison Fire and Rescue, Atchison County EMS, and the area National Guard Unit.Director of the School of Nursing, Sarah Harris, said students from the Populations health Care Clinic class simulated attending to the medical needs of victims of distress if a tornado were to strike the area.Julia McLaughlin, a senior nursing student said, “I feel like I’ve learned a lot.

Polly Jones celebrates 75th class reunion

A remarkably resilient woman known by most as Polly (Jackson) Jones and by many, many others as Grandma Polly, she just recently attended the 75th anniversary of her high school graduation from Atchison High School as one of the few surviving members of the class of 1949.Polly’s lifelong resilient nature has allowed her to raise seven children as a single mom and those children eventually gave Polly twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
