Shirley Marie Toedter


Shirley Marie (Wiltrout) Toedter passed away on January 21, 2025. She was born November 4, 1939, in Bobtown, PA. She attended Bobtown Grade School for eight years merely by walking across the street. She graduated from Mapletown High School in 1957.
She met Melvin in the Washington, D.C. area while he was working for the Bureau of Prisons. They were married after they came to Leavenworth in 1965. They were blessed with two sons and three beautiful grandchildren.
Shirley loved working with children. She worked at the Fort Leavenworth Child Development Center and sacrificed any retirement just to be home with her own children over the summer.
Shirley and Melvin enjoyed traveling and were proud to share that they had been to all fifty states, Canada, and Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, three sisters, and a son, Daniel. Shirley is survived by her husband, Melvin Toedter, of the home; son, Steven Toedter, Leavenworth; and grandchildren, Hailyn Toedter, Kendall Toedter, and Langston Toedter, Lansing, KS.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davis Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. John Cemetery Association in care of Davis Funeral Chapel.
