Marvin Clayter displays a giant flathead catfish he reeled in with help from his brother, Jerry Clayter, on Tuesday morning at Atchison Watershed No. 3, along Harper Drive on the west-northwest flank of town. Clayter regularly angles from the watershed dam.
Clayter didn’t weigh the fish, but it appears to have a length of about 4 feet, and though in good shape, he struggled to display it long enough for this photo. He considered throwing it back out of respect for its accomplishments in size, but intends to eat it. Clayter lives in Atchison.
