Signup and equipment checkout for the Atchison Recreation Youth Football program will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29 and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30 at Memorial Hall, 819 Commercial St.

Youngsters entering third through sixth grades in the fall are eligible to sign up for the football program. A $75 sign-up fee must be paid, plus a $200 refundable equipment deposit submitted for each participant on the day they sign up. A registration and liability release form will need to be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian and any player who did not play in the football program last year must provide a copy of his birth certificate. Football equipment will be issued to players on the day they sign up so they must attend the signup so they can be fitted for equipment.

The Atchison Recreation youth football teams play in the Midland Empire Youth Football program based out of St. Joseph, Missouri. Practices will begin on July 31 and will be held at the Atchison Sports Complex. Practice times will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday from July 31 to Aug. 17 and 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday from Aug. 22 through the end of the season. Games will be played on Saturdays starting on Sept. 9 and will continue through mid October. Games will be played in Atchison, St. Joseph, and in the St. Joseph surrounding communities.

Those unable to sign up on the scheduled sign-up date or who need more information about the football program should contact Josh Rebant, Atchison Recreation Football Director, at 913-426-1504 or the Atchison Recreation Commission at 913-367-3352.
