The Atchison Senior A’s closed out regular season play with a split against Sabetha at home on Wednesday.
The A’s (10-10) won Game 1, 6-5, in nine innings before losing, 4-3, in Game 2.
Next up for Atchison is the AAA Zone Tournament, hosted by the A’s. The six-team, double-elimination tournament includes Ottawa, Pittsburg, Chanute, Holton, Oskaloosa and Atchison.
The A’s begin play at 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 20 against Oskaloosa. Atchison is 2-2 against Oskaloosa this season, most recently sweeping a home doubleheader at the end of June. The winner of the game will play Ottawa at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. The loser will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 in the first elimination game.
The tournament opens with Chanute taking on Holton at 6 p.m. on Monday. The winner of the game will play Pittsburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21. The loser will play at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22 in the second elimination game.
Two teams out of the zone will advance to the AAA State Tournament.
Atchison will attempt to qualify for state for the second consecutive year.
