The Maur Hill-Mount Academy boys baseball team took care of business Monday night with a dominating 2-0 home sweep of one of its lesser opponents in McLouth.
The Ravens won the first game 12-0 in the fourth inning and the second game 17-2 in the third inning with a total of 16 hits in both games.
Coach Phil Baniewicz said that for the most part his team was able to avoid the potential energy and effort drop-off when playing a much lesser opponent.
“Sometimes you play better teams, you’re ready to go,” Baniewicz said. “Sometimes when teams struggle a little bit you have to see if guys are going to come out ready. I think our guys did.”
Seniors Zach Schwinn, Parker Mispagel and Jack Kocour all led the team with three hits on the day.
Mispagel led the team with six RBIs on the day.
“I think our team is kind of looking down the line at some better challenges,” Baniewicz said.
One of those better challenges awaits them Wednesday when they travel across town to take on Atchison High School.
Baniewicz said the players don’t need much to get up for this cross-town rival opponent.
“The kids grew up with each other and I think they like playing against each other,” Baniewicz said. “I know our guys do. You don’t even need to say anything and the guys will just come out ready to go.”
First pitch for Ravens and Redmen is set for 2:00 p.m. at Atchison High School.
