The Maur Hill-Mount Academy golf team earned its first win of the season at the Horton Invitational Tuesday.
The Ravens took first place with four golfers placing in the top ten of the invitational.
First year coach Christian Wessel said his team made vast improvements since their last outing in the Sabatha Invitational.
“I’m thrilled with them,” Wessel said. “As a team we averaged 6.8 strokes lower per individual and we bought into what we were trying to do.”
Junior Nathan Sowers finished tied for first with a 42 before ultimately losing in a playoff and finishing second.
“He played excellent and really poised,” Wessel said. “He co-ops with us from Atchison High School and he’s been a real fun addition to our team. The kids really like him.”
Sophomore Austin Coder finished fifth with a score of 49. Conner Becker finished sixth with a score of 49. Junior Phillip Saragusa was tenth with a score of 52.
Sophomore Carson Schroeder finished with 52 and senior Patrick Kerr had 62.
“We got last place at Sabatha,” Wessel said. “They were pretty discouraged and all I told them is that all we can do is look to improve and they each improved.”
