Three local high school athletes made the trip to Kansas State Track and Field over the weekend in Wichita. Find their final results from state in the next Atchison Globe edition.
The lone athlete or Atchison High School was junior Tyeera Heyward.
Heyward impressively finished top three in three events and broke a school record in their regional meet at the Shawnee Mission North high school to qualify for state.
Heyward took first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 48.38 which was also a personal best. She also took second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.80, which beat the school record by over half a second. Her third-place finish as in the high jump by clearing 4ft. 10in.
Maur Hill-Mount Academy sent two athletes to state, senior Scarlett Begley and junior Zach Sanford. To reach the state meet Begley finished second in the high jump, and Sanford was the regional champion in the 400-meter dash.
