Rygaard, Wayne F. 1937-2019

EFFINGHAM, Kan. Wayne F. Grizz Rygaard, 81, of Effingham, died on Friday, June 21, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial Celebration of Life services will be 7 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, at the Becker-Dyer- Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. David Burnworth, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hoyt officiating.

The body has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.

Interment of the cremated remains will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2019, at the Sunset Memory Gardens of Atchison.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holton Community Hospital & Hospice and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.

Wayne was born on Aug. 23, 1937, in Atchison, the son of Gene and Pearl (Cox) Rygaard.

He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1955.

He served in the National Guard. Wayne had worked as a logger near Port Angles, Washington. before moving back here. Grizz worked most of his life as a mechanic for the Capital Electric Company, Kansas City.

He enjoyed shooting black powder rifles, tinkering around the house, a simple country living, hunting, fishing, and helping his children with projects.

He was married to Janet Worrel on Nov. 28, 1959, at Sacred Heart Church, Atchison. Mrs. Rygaard survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: a son, Eric Rygaard, Lawrence, Kansas; two daughters, Mary Flynn, Topeka, Kansas and Bonny (Mark) Cassella, Topeka; 12 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.

His parents, two sons, Kevin and Mark Rygaard, and two sisters Marcia and Edra Ruth Rygaard preceded him in death. As published in the Atchison Globe.
