Jay C. Jewell, 54, was killed in a truck accident near Bendena, Kansas, on Monday evening June 3, 2019.

Jay was born Aug. 4, 1964, in Wahoo, Nebraska, the son of Don and Jan Jewell. The family moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1966.

Jay graduated from Leavenworth High School, spent two years in the US Navy, returned to Leavenworth where he wed.

He was a proud father of: three children, Kaitlin, Emilee and Tyler.

Upon the dissolution of his marriage and the loss of the family home due to the death of his father, Jay moved to Atchison.

Jay pursued his trade as a Carpenter. He volunteered his skills to enable the annual Juneteenth celebration to be a success. Jay could not escape his pain but always tried to help others to do so.

Jay is survived by: two of his children, Kaitlin and Tyler; five grandchildren; his mother, Jan Jewell; brothers, Lee B. Jewell and wife, Margie, Jeffery S. Jewell; nephew and best friend, Jeffery A. Jewell; and five nieces.

Jay was preceded in death by: one daughter, Emilee; father, Don Jewell; brothers, Brad G. and Chip E. Jewell.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions will be used for funeral expenses. Funds managed by the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS. 66002.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. June 19, at the Riverbend Church, 1145 Commercial St.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Highway 7, in Atchison. As published in the Atchison Globe.
