Authorities plan to close the Atchison County Courthouse for Independence Day.

In observance of Fourth of July holiday, all non-emergent and non-essential Atchison County offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4.

The holiday closure includes the Atchison County Courthouse, 423 North Fifth St. The courthouse and all other county-run business offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 5, with regular business hours.

For the City of Atchison, trash and recycling pickups will take place as scheduled this week. However, this will only apply to household trash and recycling; crews won’t pick up solid waste, such as yard debris, tree limbs, bulky household items and discarded appliances.

Those expecting solid waste pickup on Friday, July 5, will instead receive it on Monday, July 8. For a complete schedule of how coming holidays will affect city services, consult the service calendar mailed to utility customers earlier this year or call 913-367-5500.

City of Atchison offices and facilities, including City Hall on 515 Kansas Ave., will be closed to normal public business on Thursday, July 4, and resume operations with normal hours on Friday, July 5. Public safety services won’t be affected by the holiday.

Anyone in need of public safety services during the closure period should call 913-367-4323. In case of emergency, dial 911.
