A reported choking incident earlier this week has landed a 27-year-old Atchison man in jail stay with charges pending in connection with a domestic incident.

Chad M. Tilton was arrested after police officers were called by a third party about 2 p.m. concerning a domestic disturbance in the 1500 block of South Eighth Street said Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson.

By the time police at the residence, Tilton had already fled from the crime scene where officers encountered a 24-year-old female victim, Wilson said. The victim did not seek immediate medical attention. Police allege Tilton physically pushed and choked the victim and broke her eyeglasses. Police located Tilton several blocks away and arrested him for aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

After his apprehension, Tilton was booked into the Atchison County Jail where he remained Wednesday morning. The police reports were forwarded to Atchison County Attorney Sherri Becker for her review of the case. Becker filed formal charges of aggravated domestic battery, a felony, and misdemeanor offenses of domestic battery and criminal damage to property on Thursday.
