A man has been taken to the hospital with injuries he is expected to survive following an incident on Friday evening.

Police Chief Mike Wilson said that the man, age 33, suffered several lacerations to the head in the 100 block of South Second Street. The incident prompted a significant police response, with at least three APD patrol vehicles observed racing east on Commercial Street to the scene at about 6:30 p.m. Friday. Atchison County EMS transported the victim to an area hospital.

Wilson said Friday that first responders believe the man will survive his injuries. On Monday, he said no progress had been made in the case because the victim won't cooperate with investigators.

"The victim refuses to tell police officers what happened or who is responsible," Wilson said.

Anyone with knowledge of information pertinent to the investigation may make a report at all hours of the day by calling 913-367-4323.

Fire Department units assisted at the scene.
