The Atchison Junior A’s and Doniphan County legion baseball teams were impressive this past summer – when rain didn’t cancel the games – and both qualified for the Class A state tournament.
The A’s finished the season with an 11-7 record, which may not seem impressive, but digging into the numbers you’ll find that all 7 losses came to teams that also qualified for the state tournament. In fact, the losses came to the top two teams in the state.
At the tournament in Salina, the A’s knocked off Andover in the first round 5-2, before losing to Arkansas City and Doniphan County.
It was Doniphan County that handed Atchison 6 of its losses. DC went on to take second place at the tournament, losing to Ark City.
The Doniphan County senior legion team also went to state, winning in the first round before dropping two in a row to be eliminated.
