The Maur Hill-Mount Academy baseball team got maybe its biggest pair of wins this season on the road Monday against Oskaloosa.
The Ravens faced some adversity in the first game trailing 1-0 for the first three innings before scoring four runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-1.
The Bears (7-3) responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to draw within 4-3 of MHMA.
Raven (10-0, 6-0) junior Abe Siebenmorgen answered with a three run homer in the top of seventh powering his team to an 8-3 win.
Freshman Drew Caudle got the win going five innings giving up two runs with 10 strikeouts.
Coach Phil Baniewicz said getting into this type of test was important for his team.
“It was good to be in a tight game where there was more pressure on them,” Baniewicz said. “Oskaloosa was league champs last year so for us to come out to their place and have our best players come through in the clutch really helped out.”
MHMA dealt with much less of a challenge in the second game blowing out Oskaloosa 16-0 in three innings.
“We weren’t really challenged a lot in the second game,” Baniewicz said. “They were just out of pitching. Everybody hit the ball and they just piled it on.”
Siebenmorgen got the win in the second game pitching two innings.
“Abe pitched very well,” Baniewicz said. “I would have liked to have seen him pitch more.”
