Benedictine junior Alex Gilham pitches against Baker University Saturday April 13 at the BC Softball Field.

CEDAR RAPIDS – With the final two teams decided on Monday, the 2019 Heart Softball Championship Series will get underway on Wednesday on the campus of Mount Mercy University.

Benedictine enters this year’s series as the No. 6 seed and will take on No. 3 seed Central Methodist University at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Busse Field inside the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.

Eight teams will be in Cedar Rapids for the double-elimination tournament starting on Wednesday and running through Saturday. A win for the Ravens on Wednesday advances them into the winners bracket at 2:30 p.m. Thursday while a loss moves them into the consolation bracket at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Mount Mercy has set up a Tournament Central page for information on traveling to Cedar Rapids and a look at the tournament field and bracket.

As the regular-season champion, Baker University is already guaranteed a berth in the NAIA playoffs later in May. The tournament champion will earn the conference’s second berth. If Baker wins the tournament, then Grand View University will earn the second auto berth as the regular-season runner up.

All games will have live stats through Dakstats and video stream is available through the Mount Mercy Stretch Portal – or the NAIA app.
