Approval of a tentative agreement on the table between Atchison National Education Association and Atchison Public School leaders will likely come before the end of the night on Monday.

USD 409 school leaders will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at the Central School, 215 N. Eighth St., Atchison. On the agenda is the slated action concerning ratification of the 2018-19 ANEA and USD 409 agreement.

After a few months of negotiations behind closed doors the Negotiation teams convened Dec. 4 and tentatively reached an agreement between the parties. The agenda also indicates before formal action, board members will likely recess from open session to discuss negotiations and discuss matters of non-elected personnel.

After the public session resumes, board members expect to approve the 2018-19 wages for classified and administrative staff.

Concerning other matters throughout the meeting board members in addition to regular monthly business, board members expect to:

Hear reports about Central School from Principal Julie Crum about academics and activities at the facility and from Matt Ramsey, a Central School Site Council member, about the buildings’ site council activities.

Hear the district’s audit report from Jim Long, CPA for the year ending June 30, 2018 and take action related to the report.

Hear from Director of Technical Education from Lucas Hunziger, of Highland Technical Center, about HCC activities at the center.

Hear a presentation about Telecenter U Critical Communications from a sales representative about safety/security equipment under consideration for purchase with funds awarded through the Kansas School Safety grant funding.

Expect to appoint someone to serve a four-year term on the Atchison Recreation Commission. The term is effective Jan. 1, 2019.

REC Commission Chairman Rickey Ross currently serves the term set to expire Dec. 31. The vacancy was advertised and members of the public were invited to submit their letters of interest. Letters were received from Ross and Dr. Pam Rizza for consideration.
