A Northeast Kansas man suffered severe burns and broken bones when his motorcycle wrecked last weekend.

Michael D. Kurtz, 59, of Lecompton, crashed at about 5:25 p.m. on Friday, May 31, while riding on U.S. Highway 24 near Grantville, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Kurtz’ daughter, Amanda Hunt of Perry, said her father suffered “burns all over his body” and at least two fractures in his right leg.

“He has a long road of recovery ahead of him and will be out of work a long time,” she wrote on a Facebook-based fundraising announcement on her father’s behalf. “Please continue praying for a successful recovery.” Hunt said Kurtz is in good spirits despite requiring skin grafts on his arm and leg.
