Police negotiators eventually persuaded a man who refused on Tuesday afternoon to come out of his hotel room to surrender peacefully without injury or further incident.
Police Chief Mike Wilson confirmed that the incident at a hotel in the 500 block of South Ninth Street, which had been thought to possibly involve a weapon, ended as a result of negotiations with the subject.
The motel was evacuated during the negotiations, Wilson said, which lasted about three hours. Upon searching the room after the man came out, authorities found no weapons.
The man was taken into custody in what authorities described as a mental health matter. Authorities said it is believed that no one had been in danger for the duration of the incident.
